Can’t Log in after Windows Update

Windows updates since Windows Update 1803 released in 2019 is causing problems with Retail Mobile Services V4 by moving the Retail Mobile Services data directory from its home in c:\Windows\(System32_or_SysWOW64)\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FoundryLogic\RetailMobileServices4.1 to c:\Windows.old\(System32_or_SysWOW64)\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FoundryLogic\RetailMobileServices4.1 without restoring it, as it should. Retail Mobile Services is not the only application affected by this bug in the Windows Update.

Users typically discover this issue by being unable to login after the update from both devices and from Retail Mobile Manager.

Solutions:

  1. Look for c:\Windows.old.  If it exists, stop the Retail Mobile Services 4.1 service, copy the directory back from c:\Windows.old\(System32_or_SysWOW64)\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FoundryLogic\RetailMobileServices4.1 to its original location (see above) and restart the service.
  2. If c:\Windows.old does not exist and no other backup of the original c:\Windows directory exists, the only option is to reconfigure using Retail Mobile Manager.

Releases starting with V5 address this issue by moving the location data files so as not to be affected by future Windows Updates. Please contact your reseller to update to the latest release.
