How Do I Restore Settings After the Fall Creators Update?

The recent Windows Update 1803 released in April is causing problems with Retail Mobile Services by moving the Retail Mobile Services data directory from its home in c:\Windows\(System32_or_SysWOW64)\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FoundryLogic\RetailMobileServices4.1 to c:\Windows.old\(System32_or_SysWOW64)\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FoundryLogic\RetailMobileServices4.1 without restoring it, as it should. Retail Mobile Services is not the only application affected by this bug in the Windows Update.

Users typically discover this issue by being unable to login after the update.

Solutions:

  1. Look for c:\Windows.old.  If it exists, stop the Retail Mobile Services 4.1 service, copy the directory back from c:\Windows.old\(System32_or_SysWOW64)\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FoundryLogic\RetailMobileServices4.1 to its original location (see above) and restart the service.
  2. If c:\Windows.old does not exist and no other backup of the original c:\Windows directory exists, the only option is to reconfigure using Retail Mobile Manager.
